In an article by The New York Times, Francesca Regalado writes about a recent museum exhibition in Thailand that criticized authoritarian governments in China, Myanmar and other countries. The curator, an artist from Myanmar, swiftly left the country from fear of being arrested and deported back to Myanmar. Chinese authorities wanted the museum to remove the names of artists from Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang, as matters in these areas were “purely China’s internal affairs.”

UC Berkeley’s History of Art Department seeks a tenure-track and Assistant Professor in Art and Architecture of East Asia and/or Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will demonstrate area-specialized expertise in the art history of East Asia and/or Southeast Asia and a record of innovative research, publication, and teaching.

The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of expertise and mentor undergraduate students and supervise doctoral students.

A4 will award $500,000 in total funding, granting $25,000 each to 20 organizations across the country for a one-year period. In addition to funding, grantee partners will also participate in a virtual cohort engagement model, creating a national community of peer organizations. This cohort will be designed to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual support among those committed to sustaining and creating arts and cultural spaces for AAPI communities.
