CALL FOR PAPERS

International Conference

Vietnamese Literature from Đổi Mới to the Present (1986–2026)

Dear Scholars, Academics, and Researchers,

Since 1986, the Đổi Mới (Renovation) reforms initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam have marked a major turning point, bringing about profound transformations across economic, social, cultural, and literary spheres. Over the past four decades, Vietnamese literature has experienced significant developments in creative practices, theoretical approaches, and literary circulation and reception.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Đổi Mới (1986–2026), the Institute of Literature (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) is pleased to announce the International Conference: “Vietnamese Literature from Đổi Mới to the Present (1986 - 2026)”. The conference aims to review and assess the achievements and limitations of Vietnamese literature over the past forty years, while exploring future directions for literary development in the context of global integration and contemporary transformations.

The Organizing Committee cordially invites scholars, academics, and researchers from Vietnam and around the world to submit papers for participation in the conference.

Conference Themes

We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • The Đổi Mới reforms since 1986 and the development of Vietnamese literature; the impact of socio-economic transformation on literary trends, genres, and literary forms;

  • Achievements and limitations of Vietnamese literature over forty years of Đổi MớI, including literary theory, criticism, research, translation, and literary dissemination; interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to literary studies in the period 1986–2026;

  • Literary production and reception; genre developments; major authors, works, and representative literary trends;

  • Lessons learned from the Đổi Mới period; emerging challenges, key issues, and prospects for literary development in the new era;
