Michael Barrett

Michael Barrett is an education researcher specializing in refugee education, trauma recovery, and culturally responsive pedagogy. He holds an Ed.D. in Global and International Education and is a 2025 CAORC-INYA Fellow conducting postdoctoral research on trauma recovery and resilience among Karen migrant students on the Thai-Myanmar border. Dr. Barrett’s work bridges education practice and policy, drawing on over 15 years of experience with refugee youth in both U.S. and Southeast Asian contexts. His research explores how schooling can foster cultural identity, community healing, and long-term resilience for displaced populations.
