Please join us for a celebration of the life and work of poet, essayist, and feminist Marra PL Lanot, who passed away on August 16, 2026. We invite you to listen to (and read aloud) some of Marra’s poems. All are welcome to share stories about and memories of the radiant, generous, and brilliant Marra, who was a friend, mentor, and inspiration to many Filipino writers, artists, critics, and activists.

About Marra Lanot:

The prolific Marra wrote in Filipino, English, and Spanish, and received numerous awards and honors for her writing, including the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, the Catholic Mass Media Award, and the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas. Her books include Passion and Compassion: Mga Tula sa Ingles at Pilipino (1981), Dream Sketches (1991), Witch’s Dance at Iba Pang Tula sa Filipino at Español (2000), Darna and Other Idols (2012), and Cadena de Amor: New and Selected Poems in English, Filipino, and Spanish (2017). Marra’s writing and activism centered women’s perspectives and women’s rights. As editor and teacher, she mentored and supported numerous writers. A champion of artistic freedom, she co-founded the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Women’s Desk and held positions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Movie and Television Rating and Classification Board.
