Organizer: Center for Khmer Studies (CKS)
Type/Location: Virtual
Description:
Organized by the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) and the École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO) Siem Reap Center, this full-day online seminar brings together more than 30 scholars, archeologists, museum professionals, provenance researchers, heritage practitioners, and legal experts from Cambodia, Thailand, Europe, the United States, Australia, and beyond.
Through a series of case studies, speakers examine collecting and museum histories, archeological context, colonial and wartime exchanges, looting and trafficking, provenance research, restitution and repatriation, and new forms of institutional cooperation.
At the heart of the discussion are broader questions about the movement and stewardship of Khmer cultural heritage: what should be repatriated, under what circumstances, and how can institutions, countries, and source communities work together to shape its future?
