Indonesia in Crisis: Affan Kurniawan, Protest, and a Polity on the Brink

Organizer: NYSEAN, Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF), and Justice in Southeast Asia Lab (JSEALab) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Type/Location: Virtual

Description:

Join NYSEAN, the Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom, and the Justice in Southeast Asia Lab at UW-Madison for a timely webinar exploring how Indonesia’s political crisis reverberates beyond street protests to challenge the foundations of academic freedom and institutional autonomy.

The conversation will situate Indonesia’s struggles within a broader regional context, examining what shrinking democratic space means under rising authoritarianism across Southeast Asia.

About SEACAF:

The Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF) brings together educators, researchers, students, policymakers, and civil society organizations to advance academic freedom as a cornerstone of democratic societies in the region.

About JSEALab:

The Justice in Southeast Asia Lab (JSEALab) is a combination of intensive exchange between faculty and graduate students and public-facing events to amplify the impact of the Henry Luce Foundation-funded five-year initiative on Social Justice in Southeast Asia at the University of Wisconsin.
