The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) held the virtual event “Southeast Asia's Generational Shift: Foreign Policy Futures” on August 19, 2026. The event examines how the emerging cohort of political leaders in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are navigating new geopolitical landscapes. Panelists assess how the coming generation of leaders might steer their countries through an increasingly uncertain and contentious geopolitical environment. Speakers include Leonard C. Sebastian, Muhammad Waffaa Kharisma, Ariel Tan, Nur Shahadah Jamil, Greg Raymond, and Thapiporn Suporn. Ann Marie Murphy, NYSEAN co-founder and Professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations, moderates the discussion.
