Phone Pyae Soe

Phone Pyae Soe is currently a doctoral candidate in public policy at the School of Public Policy at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. His research focuses on Myanmar-related public finance policy, securities markets, foreign direct investment, and local governance. He is also the founder and researcher of the Myanmar Advocacy Research Group (MARG), based in Chiang Mai, which collaborates with organizations such as the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and the Canadian Government's International Development Research Center (IDRC). Prior to his academic work, Phone served for 17 years as a deputy director in the public sector, specializing in public financial management, including the regulation of securities exchanges. He is also a higher-grade pleader with extensive experience, having handled over 50 legal cases in various courts. Phone holds a Master of Public Administration from the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University, Thailand, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Chiang Mai University.
