Luis Zuriel P. Domingo (Zuriel) is a Ph.D. student in South and Southeast Asian Studies at UC Berkeley. He is broadly interested in discourses on national imaginaries, examining the deep entanglements between culture, language, and history through materials ranging from literature to artistic performances that circulated within and across imperial and nationalist contexts in Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries. More specifically, he is interested in engaging with works in cultural history that focus on ethnicization, transculturation, knowledge production, vernacular print culture, literary traditions, and translation. Based on his previous engagements and training, he maintains an interest in issues surrounding political and cultural nationalism, contemporary historiography, and ethnology.
