About the Speakers:
Su Mon Thant is an expert in conflict dynamics and democracy in Asia. She is Asia-Pacific Senior Analyst in the international organisation Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED). She holds an MA in Politics and International Relations from Keele University (UK) and is a 2025 Research Fellow for the Australia Myanmar Research Fellowship Programme at the University of Melbourne. She has researched Myanmar’s politics and society for over a decade, including as an accredited observer of the 2015 and 2020 Myanmar elections.
Jared Bissinger is a Visiting Fellow in the Myanmar Studies Programme at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute and the Research Lead at Catalyst Economics. He has researched and published widely on Myanmar’s macroeconomy, economic governance, labor market, private sector, and business environment. Beyond his work on Myanmar, Jared has also researched and written on economics and labor markets globally, on topics including informality and the digital economy. He holds a PhD in Economics from Macquarie University.
Ben Dunant is a journalist who has worked on Myanmar since 2014. He is the former editor-in-chief of Frontier Myanmar and has reported on the country for outlets including The Times of London, The Economist, The Independent, and Foreign Policy. He also monitored Myanmar’s 2015 election as a long-term observer for the Carter Center, and has a master’s degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
