Join the Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Languages, the York Centre for Asian Research, the Philippines Study Group, and York International at York University for the virtual book launch of Indigeneity in the Philippines: Studies on Knowledge, Identity, and Rights. The following book contributors will be in attendance: Oona Paredes, Associate Professor of Southeast Asian Studies at UCLA; Ruth Tindaan, Associate Professor of English at the University of the Philippines - Baguio; and Maria Cecilia Medina, Associate Professor at the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines - Baguio.

About the Editors:

Leah Abayao is Professor of History and current Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of the Philippines Baguio. She is an Ifugao from Mayoyao, and she works on Indigenous Knowledge, and Historical studies on Indigenous Peoples and their Heritage.

Jimmy Fong belongs to the Ibaloy and Kankanaey Indigenous cultural communities in the Philippine Cordillera. He teaches the Ibaloy language as part of his advocacy for a better deal for Indigenous peoples. He was a professor of communication at the University of the Philippines Baguio and served on the board of the National Language Commission.

Carolyn Podruchny is Professor of History and Deputy Director of the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University. She will be a Visiting Professor in the Indigenous Studies PhD Program at the University of the Philippines Baguio in the winter of 2026.
