Leni Robredo’s political career has spanned the highest levels of Philippine national and local governance. In this lecture, she reflects on her six years as the Philippines’ 14th Vice President — an office without a clearly defined executive portfolio — and the circumstances that inspired her pivot to lead at the local level after the fact. She discusses the adjustments this demanded, and how they shaped her approach when she later became Mayor of her hometown, Naga City. Drawing on both experiences, she examines what moving between national and local governance reveals about institutional design, democratic accountability, and the practical, often unglamorous work of earning citizens’ trust.

About the Speaker:

Atty. Leni Robredo was the 14th Vice President of the Philippines (2016-2022) and is the current Mayor of Naga City.
