Join NYSEAN and the NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute for a screening of short films from Democratic Voice of Burma and PBS on the fifth anniversary of the coup in Myanmar. The film screenings will be followed by a discussion with May Sabe Phyu, a Kachin social worker and activist, and Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, President and Founder of Parami University.

Refreshments will be served.

About the Speakers:

May Sabe Phyu is a Kachin social worker and activist from Burma. She is the director of the Gender Equality Network, and she founded the Kachin Women’s Peace Network and the Kachin Peace Network to promote the rights of Kachin women.

Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun established Parami University with the aim of high-quality and innovative liberal education programs to students in Myanmar. After the military coup in 2021, Tun quickly incorporated Parami University as a private non-profit online university licensed by the Higher Education Licensure Commission, Washington D.C., to begin offering Associate and Bachelor degree programs to displaced students in Myanmar and other areas under authoritarian control.
