After the Election: What’s Next for Thailand?

Organizer: NYSEAN

Type/Location: Hybrid / New York, NY

Description:

The newly elected Thai government faces a dual crisis at home and abroad. Emerging from a contentious election mired in doubts over procedural transparency and drastic coalition shifting, the administration must now manage a slowing economy—recently dubbed by the Financial Times as the “sick man of Asia.” Domestically, the government grapples with a significant trust deficit in the post-election landscape.

Simultaneously, Thailand is challenged by a drastic shift in global geopolitics. The ongoing war in Iran threatens national energy security and raises critical questions about how a middle power can maintain its position within a shifting global order. Join us for a roundtable discussion exploring these domestic and international pressures with Thailand’s leading politicians and academic researchers.

Speakers:

  • Kanokrat Lertchoosakul, Assistant Professor at the Department of Government, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University

  • Kunthida Rungruengkiat, MPP Candidate at Princeton University; former Deputy Leader of Thailand’s Future Forward Party

  • Parit Wacharasindhu, Member of the Thai Parliament; Spokesperson of the People’s Party
