Chhuon Vanndasambath, Deputy Director of Cambodian Center for Regional Studies (NYSEAN Partner) wrote an op-ed “Solid prospects of Cambodia-Japan relations” in KhmerTimes.
With the positive momentum of their bilateral ties, the prospects of Cambodia-Japan relations are on course to a whole new level.
Phnom Penh-Tokyo relations have been grounded by mutual trust. Frequent high-level exchanges between two sides promote confidence and understanding in one another, and inject impetus in advancing the shared interests of the two countries. During the working visit of Prime Minister Hun Manet to Japan from last May, both countries emphasised the importance of expanding and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, elevated since 2023, between the two countries, and agreed to foster ties in key areas, namely, co-creation of economic and social values, security cooperation, addressing cross-border issues, and cooperation in international arenas.
Cambodia attaches great importance to its relations with Japan. After Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi assumed the premiership in October last year, Mr Hun Manet sent her a congratulatory letter, and underscored that Cambodia and Japan have consistently maintained excellent relations, underpinned by frequent high-level exchanges and robust cooperation across a wide range of sector.
