A Set of Trump Cards for Trump’s Tariffs: Perspectives from Thailand

In this report published by NYSEAN Partner ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, Bank Ngamarunchot discusses the various effects of the United States imposing tariffs on Thai goods and asserts that Thailand needs a comprehensive strategy to address its trade challenges. Such a strategy should aim to achieve the following: provide urgent relief for firms directly affected by tariffs; implement measures to manage the influx of Chinese goods and the problem of transshipment; and establish a long-term plan to boost the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs in the face of fierce global trade pressure.

Bank Ngamarunchot is the Director of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy Institute (STIPI) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand. He also serves as a Qualified Commissioner on the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) and the Legal Reform Commission.
